Working in aged care

Hi everyone. I work in aged care. I have done so for many years. I have had many inspiring experiences over the years, but many bad ones. It comes from poor management and apathetic staff; families who are stressed.  It is a really hard job and often times I think about resigning

Hi @Healing12, welcome to the forums, we're so happy to have you here 😀

Firstly I'd like to say a huge thank you for all the compassion, time and energy you put in to care for our elderly!

I can understand why you feel like resigning. I only spent 3 months in aged care earlier this year and it near on broke me. Purely due to the poor management and bullying which you have described, and not having appropriate support after losing my first resident. You're so incredibly strong for putting up with these issues for so many years.

I can sense how burnt out you must be feeling, I am so sorry you're feeling this way.

I wonder, is there a health and safety representative (HSR) that you could speak with about how you're feeling at work or does your employer have an EAP available to you that you could contact for support?

Self-care is so important in a caring role, have you had much time to be able to care for yourself lately? Are you in a position to be able to take some time off?

I'm here for you @Healing12, as is the rest of the forums community if you'd like to keep chatting 😀
