ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Ask Us Anything_Service Spotlight.jpg

Hello everyone! We are very excited to re-launch our event called Ask Us Anything – Service Spotlight.

For members that have been here a bit longer, you might have seen our past service spotlights. This is similar with a slightly updated vibe based on some feedback that we got from the community not too long ago 😊

How this event works:

We invite a specific service to come along to the forums and introduce themselves and their program. Members will then be able to ask them any questions about their service or even organisation from Monday to Friday at any time. The service provider will be checking in each day to answer and reply. We really encourage you to come along and ask any question you like, there will be no judgement and no question too big or small.

Want to ask something completely confidentially? Submit a question anonymously right here

To kick things off, on Monday 25th March we are lucky enough to have @Arafmi_Ltd joining us to provide some insight into support available for carer's and their program called Carer Coach.

ARAFMI reaches out with friendship and understanding to all whose lives are touched by a mental health problem. Their aim is to maintain and improve existing levels of support services to all relatives and friends of people with a mental illness.

Hello to everyone that wanted a reminder! @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Val @Determined @40367 👋 we are ready to get this event opened! As you will have seen we have @Arafmi_Ltd joining us to answer questions from now until Friday about their new program called Carer Coach. @Arafmi_Ltd will be popping in to check on this thread each day and respond to you guys.

For those that would rather submit a question anonymously, you are welcome to do so via this link.

To get us started I thought I would go with the first question and ask - what is Carer Coach?

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Is carer coach available in regional and rural areas?

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Thanks @Lauz,

Carer Coach is a five module training series that Arafmi has developed to help mental health carers and the people they care for navigate the NDIS. Carer Coach is being delivered through face-to-face workshops, printed booklets and online.

Carer Coach brings together information from a range of quality NDIS resources relevant to mental health carers. This information has been combined with the invaluable knowledge Arafmi’s frontline workers have developed through supporting people through the NDIS process, to provide carers with accurate and easily accessible information.

Carer Coach is free for anyone who cares for or about a friend or family member with a psychosocial disability who wants to learn more about the NDIS. It is specifically tailored to the unique needs and challenges of mental health carers and the people they care.

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Is it available in regional and remote areas, and also is it available for carers who are also living with mental health challenges?

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Hi @Val,

We are delivering our modules through a range of mediums including online training, printed booklets and also face-to-face workshops which we've been trialling in Brisbane, Queensland from November 2018.

For those in regional and rural areas, we suggest signing up for our online training or requesting to have the printed workbooks sent to you. If you're based in Queensland you can call our office on 07 3254 1881 and speak to our team directly should you need any assistance.

If you live outside of Queensland, we're happy to try and work with you to find appropriate supports in your area should you need to access them outside of the training.

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Does the program offer support to appeal decisions made by ndis?

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Is there any agency coordinating information about the biases in the NDIS against mental health approvals?

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Hi @Val,

The training program guides you through the process of applying for the NDIS and will provide you with information to help you learn the terminology that the NDIS is looking for, and also the type of evidence you should have ready to support the application. This information has been collected by our Arafmi staff who have helped many successfully apply for the NDIS.

As every application is different, we offer phone support should you need to appeal any decisions made by the NDIS.

Re: ASK US ANYTHING //Carer Coach //Mon 25 March - Fri 29 March 10am - 5pm AEDT

Hi @Val,

Unfortunately, we are well aware of how challenging the NDIS can be. Have you recently applied for the NDIS and have been rejected? We can try to help you with that as we have seen a number of different applicants who have unfortunately not met access requirements. We can help with appeals to seek approval. We would be happy to take a look if you need additional support.
