Re: rough time

I think I agree with @Sans911 @about an overnight stay @outlander, tine sure things settle properly, then go home ..... but you will do yourself a favour if you ore-prepare and feeeze meals for yourself, make sure you have fresh linen, extra food and necessities in the house, tissues and things within easy reach, etc,  so you can rest up properly once home with very little to do for your self-care.

Re: rough time

transport home? @CheerBear are you refferring to the op day itself (as in from hospital to home?)
yes apparently you have to be loud to get noticed with so many things these days 😕

this is a very big first for me yet again @Sans911 . Never been to this city, hospital, never had sugury except for minor suturing and never ever hadGA. Do you think it would be worth staying the night before pre-admission or just go up pre admission day, stay that night and the night of/after the op?
The city is known for major delays due to traffic, if I said the nearby city you would know it.
Maybe I should at least stay the one night after at loeast it covers me and if they decide to keep me overnight the family would have somewhere to stay as well

@Former-Member

I live in a busy city atm so although where I will be will be more overwhelming im kinda use to the traffic and bussiness. The pricing of the hotel so far is 500 for 2 nights only havent inlcuded the rest If I stay longer etc, and around 300 per night at an airbnb place. But yes cost is a big factor in the length of stay for sure let alone food, petrol etc.

the hospital nearby is unfortunalty pretty shite, but if I needed to go I would, they just arent all that experienced with dental things.

@Appleblossom

sorry I meant I would hire a nurse for the night for me not for someone to take care of sisters 🙂 they would be with us anyway. Pop surprising is easy, ive already got a few support workers lined up for him for the time im away and also for a few days while im home so I wont have to worry about things so much like housework cooking etc

Re: rough time

thank you @Faith-and-Hope that is a good idea too. im getting a home care/support worker in for pop for at least a few days so thatll take some stress off too

Re: rough time

Going up pre admission day should be enough-there's no need to the night before. And one night after. As long as you feel okish, you should be OK to go home. The nursing staff are usually pretty good at giving you post op instructions and what complications to watch for.

GA always sounds scary, but it's not so bad. It's like having a sleep but you don't remember anything. I had GA, light sedation and local. They put you to sleep in a room next to the theatre and just before your op or they'll do it in the theatre itself. You'll feel groggy and a bit woozy after, but I found sleeping it off is the easiest way to cope. It affects everyone differently. You'll be monitored closely for a few hours to make sure you wake up properly, are eating and peeing, then they'll relax a bit but probably check you hourly. I would strongly advise you when you go for pre admission to alert them to your level of anxiety, and ask for medication to help. There's no shame in that and your recovery will get off to a better start the less stressed you are.

Re: rough time

the surgical team ive spoken to knows about my anxiety level but ill tell the pre- admission nurses etc about it again. im not so worried about the GA itself more the complications (and needles but ill get over that) but i guess they will deal with that if anything arises.
theyve been really good at explaining things and answering any questions, its more just me freaking out. the way you described it is what theyve said too including the sedation process. or most of it anyway.. @Sans911

but staying the 13th and 14th seems to be the go-er not to long but enough to be on the safe side.

Re: rough time

Re: rough time

Yes @outlander  👍

Travel there on the day of pre admission, stay one night pre op and one night post op. Thats what I would do too.

Re: rough time

Btw @outlander it's not a 'crazy mess'. It's completely normal you have all these concerns and questions you want answered. Even though I'm a nurse I still get anxious with surgery. It's the unknown that's the scary bit. Here's hoping everything goes smoothly and your recovery is quick and as pain free as possible.

Hugs from me and Jasper

Re: rough time

Thanks sis
It is very much the unknown and waiting. November cant come soon enough.

How are you going tonight? @Sans911

Re: rough time

I'm doing alright. It was good to see my foster sister this morning. But I didn't enjoy my volunteer workshop this afternoon. One lady was pretty impatient and a bit terse with me, and I will have a quiet word to her next week. So I feel a bit dissapointed and deflated about it.
