Mother with BPD

I have a mother with border line personality disorder and it is one of the hardest things for me to deal with.
I have spent the last 10 years going through stages or loving my mother so dearly and having such a great relationship to fearing for my life or what she will do to her self.
It would be great if there was a group for children of parents with bdp to get together and talk about their experiences.

Couldnt agree more @Mon_102

Does Spectrum Victoria offer a service?

@Kurra @Lunar @CherryBomb Do you know services for other states?

Re: Mother with BPD

Hello @Mon_102

That sounds really difficult, and that you really care about your mother and looking to get some more support for yourself which is great. Are you currently linked in with a counsellor or psychologist at all?

Other than Spectrum you could also look into The Australian BPD Foundation, they have a link to resources for children who have parents with BPD;

Australian BPD Foundation

http://bpdfoundation.org.au/young-carers.php

There is also GROW, which runs support groups across Australia. They have a list of support groups on their website but you could try calling them to see what exactly the support groups focus on:

Grow

It is really good that you are reaching out to the forums for support, look after yourself.

Re: Mother with BPD

Hi @Mon_102

I have moved your post over here to the Carers Forum. I'm not sure if you knew it existed or not, but I thought you might find some people in this Forum who are going through similar situations.

A good starting point could be the thread 'Borderline Personality Disorder tips for family and friends'

Re: Mother with BPD

Hi @Mon_102
I can understand exactly where you are coming from. My mum is in her 60s and refuses to accept that she has an illness. My dad now has a copycat behavior going on so we have a double hit. Presently I am the only one who has been strong enough to stand up and say enough you have crossed your boundaries and it has gotten to a sad point of separation. I know I have to look after myself and my family but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt any less. Living with a parent with this illness has a devastating effect on all people involved.
This forum really helps me. Im new on here but it is a place you can be heard and know you are not alone. Take care of you. Xxx
