Re: DBT.. sorry to harass
I dont know if there is anything in public system in Qld ... @Mazarita may know
I have decided to use on-line tools for DBT for myself ... so if you cant find a state body who do it ... maybe you can use the medicare 10 appointments referred by GP .. to at least get some face to face counselling ... by law everybody is entitled to 10 sessions ... in serious cases more are available ... at GP's discretion.
Good luck @shanc
and it is no problem .. it is important to move it on it soon.

Re: DBT.. sorry to harass
Thankyou
I have been seeing a psychiatrist for a year and due to suicidal tendencies have suggested additional treatment. I have read contributors that have done DBT so just seeing their options

Re: DBT.. sorry to harass
You may be still entitled to the 10 psycholgy sessions ... many people on this forum see both.
DBT involves a heavy time commitment .. and has evolved from buddhist principles ... learning about mindfulness and being aware (or journalling) your thoughts and feelings could help prepare you ...

Re: DBT.. sorry to harass
Hi @shanc,
Sorry you are doing it so hard at the moment. I'm in Queensland too. I don't have an immediate answer to your question. But I would suggest doing some Google searches including your location and words like 'psychologist', 'dbt' or 'dialectical behaviour therapy'. This should bring up some psychologists in or near your local area that practise with this method. Then I'd ring around a few to ask if they might be able to treat you on a 'mental health care plan'.
As @Appleblossom already mentioned, the next step would be to go to your GP and ask that they refer you for the 10 sessions with the psychologist of your choice. I would make a 'long appointment' with the GP for the purpose of discussing everything with them at more length.
This is precisely what I did to find and be referred to my current psychologist (though I'm there for a different kind of therapy). I also found my psychiatrist via Google and ring arounds.
My GP did tell me that there might be the possibility of extending my time with the psychologist beyond the 10 sessions. That may be a possibility for you too. Wishing you well.

Re: DBT.. sorry to harass
You mentioned to @shanc that you were using online tools. Do you have the links to them? Are they by reputable organisations?

Re: DBT.. sorry to harass
I have been flat out catching up with current ideas in therapy and new and in the world and the web. For me, watching the neuroscience and Stanford human biology of behaviour lectures are tools ... eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNnIGh9g6fA
I used https://mindspot.org.au/
there is also https://moodgym.anu.edu.au/welcome
which I have not actually tried.
They are reputable, but based on CBT.
I am looking at many sites and talks reccomended by SANE forum users and other links as I see fit.
There is a self-help DBT site http://www.dbtselfhelp.com/
I dont know if you think it is reputable ... I am planning to go through it systematically when I have time. I figured I am experienced enough to take the risk.
I have read through reputable sites for DBT rundowns eg http://melbournedbtcentre.com.au/wpress/
but decided the cost and travel was not worth it for me.
regards Apple
